A fighting game character showcase created by me, Alexander Jacobo.

Make sure to come try the hands-on Unity demo on the second floor of the AIMM building at TCNJ!

The Plan

I tasked myself with designing, sketching, 3D modeling, rigging, animating, and texturing an original character in that order. Once all of that was done and rendered, all the work done culminates in a showcase video.

The Idea

I’ve code-named the character AFF, an acronym for Agile Frog Fighter. As the name suggests, AFF is meant to be my concept for an original fighting game character. AFF is a cloaked frog with a dagger, lily pad hat, and a strangely powerful stomach. To use some fighting game terms, AFF is meant to be a speedy rushdown fighter with the ability to apply poison to his attacks for extra damage over time. When AFF isn’t slashing with his prized dagger, he relies on his strong frog legs and sticky tongue.

The Inspiration

As an avid fan of both fighting games and amphibians, this project neatly combined two of my interests. The attack moves are inspired by many attacks seen throughout the Street Fighter series, but with my own spin on things. AFF’s fighting style uses a mix of sumo, dagger combat, and comical frog-themed abilities.

The Challenges

The main program I relied on heavily for this project was Blender. I had very little experience going into this with Blender. I was not only tackling first times like 3D camera animation, full character rigging and character animation, but I was tackling learning a new software as well. This semester proved to be an extreme challenge juggling five courses, but I believe that against the odds I emerged victorious with an amazing personal project.
