Project Overview

I will be creating an animated website that will introduce Max and Rosie, characters from the story A Cape for my Mother I’ve written myself in Twine. Each character is represented on their online personality profile. They will be accompanied by digital art and designs inspired by their personal experiences that help shape their role in the story. People will have the opportunity to have a conversation with the characters via a chatbot. This project aims to inspire young adults to connect with characters and be part of a colorful, challenging, heartwarming, and fun story.

Story Description

Max, a young coding genius employed at a toy tech company who is smart-alecky, a bit of a slacker, and often the target of bullying at his job. While trying to meet his employers’ demands, after hearing the news of his biological mother’s untimely death. Going through the five stages of grief; he will rediscover a MacGuffin left behind in his childhood memories. Which redefines the symbol of the season of giving and could make or break his career during one of the most stressful times of the year, the holidays.

Personal Inspiration/Interest

My interest in this project started with one question. If you could meet your favorite character what would you ask them? I love storytelling and discovering what makes a character curious about an idea or subject. Seeing how their different choices impact a story. After a few developing character ideas, what I have come to realize is that visual storytelling is powerful not because of what story is being told or wondering if its the right one but how the ideas are executed; grounded in something that everyone can relate to and find commonality among in this case is a good conversation.
