What is Elemental Chance?

Elemental Chance is a mobile game that uses Augmented Reality development kits such as ARFoundation and Vuforia to bring the characters to life. The mobile game has two players pick and use a selection of elemental spells to battle, which are cast by a dice roll. You pick between six elements: Fire, Ice, Nature, Lightning, Death, and Wind. A lobby will hold two players, with the intention that said two players are in the same area. The camera will project the mages you’ve chosen, and the battle will seem as if it were happening in real life!

My Process

For my thesis, I wished to do something that would be familiar but different. Challenging but doable, something that I haven’t done before. So I challenged myself to implement AR into the game. Although development was not as promising as initially inclined, there was still a lot of progress made, much of which had to come from Udemy videos ($50 but its worth it!) It was a dark, bumpy road I was running down with no light nor compass, but I still ran the course. I tripped along the way, but how can I finish the marathon if I don’t get up from a tumble?

Who’s This For?

If you loved the sensational game, Pokemon GO, this is the game for you. Unlike Pokemon GO, however, you won’t be capturing adorable creatures in simulated environments, you’ll be battling you and your friends’ mages in the environment that you’re in.
