About the Game

You are a detective hired by find a missing group of friends, by investigating the Murder Hotel Escape room, which is based on the actual Murder Hotel from the 1800s. To escape, you have to find evidence hidden throughout the hotel to prove that the owner of the escape room is kidnapping his customers. This is a mystery game that was inspired by the true events of the serial killer H. H. Holmes. My objective create an interesting and enjoyable game, while improving my limited game making, modeling and programming skills.

The Process

To create this project I used Maya to build my assets, such as the furniture present in the rooms, and Unity to make the playable game. While brainstorming my project last semester, I decided that I wanted to design the furniture in the game from scratch, without the use of outside assets. Aside from the hanging art, wallpaper and carpet, I managed to achieve this goal and am happy with how everything turned out. Furthermore, I have learnt valuable lessons about game making that I will take into consideration in future games. One of the main things I struggled with on this project was the order in which to create or implement aspects of my game. For example, I originally started by modeling all of the furniture at the beginning. In theory this would have been effective, however I did not focus enough initially on the gameplay and should have been implementing gameplay aspects into the game once I had built the furniture that corresponded.

Overall this has been a long and challenging, but very rewarding process. When I first started building this project, part of me questioned if I was going to be able to achieve my goal and create a playable game with the skill level I was at. But looking back from the beginning of this process to now, I am incredibly proud of the progress I have made and the end product that I have created.
