Welcome to the World of Ascor!

Throughout quarantine, tabletop role-playing games with my friends online has been a major way of keeping me sane- as it has many others. Worldbuilding, concept art and character creation have always been some of my favorite things to draw, too, so my time in quarantine has been fairly straightforward: drawing characters for my dungeons and dragons groups, or coming up with new ones I have yet to play. Rise of Calamity was developed out of a desire to both work on my worldbuilding and concept art ability, as well as create something I would be able to do with my friends while still in quarantine. Taking on an entire world to develop was a much bigger project than I had ever taken on before, but it was so exciting to be able to create something of my own from scratch.

An Overview

Rise of Calamity is the name of the project, focusing on an overarching story between a set of modules that develops as it’s being played. The project itself focuses on being open-world, with art concepts descriptions meant to help draw in players. I wanted to create NPCs and a world that really felt alive without player intervention, without driving them along a story they couldn’t interact with. The world is focused more on adventure and discovery, letting players figure out Ascor and what exactly is going on in a setting that grows along with them.

Void’s Corruption is the first module in a series of adventures set to take place in this new world. Future adventures will help to make Ascor more open world, with more time for me to play-test the adventure with an array of groups and develop a world based on player input.
